There is always that kind of music you hope to find that you can put on heavy rotation on your IPod. You are lucky to find an artist with one or two songs in their music portfolio. It is rare when you find an artist who has the talent to produce several songs to fit the bill. One such artist is the engaging songwriter, musician, and singer, Scottie Gage.
His 2007 song “Waterslide” has been enjoying national exposure this past year on Logo’s Click List as a top music Video. The song epitomizes Gage’s unique vocal range and pop style which has a richness that has been described by many as “sultry.” I like to add that it reflects a vocal personification of raw passion that is rare in a male singing voice in the current pop music scene.
Gage is a singer and songwriter that visually, as an artist, connects well with his audience. I immediately can see his “IT” factor. While some say, that his status as an openly out musician may be a hindrance to his music career, I believe that his talent is big enough that it will transcend whatever perceived obstacles may come his way. He is an artist for the mainstream music industry also. There are no boundaries for his music. No one should be deprived of his talent.
Gage has some good tracks that I especially like over and beyond Waterslide. They are: Losing My Way, Spinning in Circles, Sugarburn, Bounce, and Disco Fantasy. I was especially moved by the song: This is Who I Am. Gage’s poetic quality shows through his lyrics and makes this song very poignant in its underlying message. Very powerful stuff.
Gage explains on his web site that not only does he write his music to help people relate to his experiences, but he also writes to help them be “inspired by new thoughts and ideas.” This is what makes Scottie Gage, as a musician, intriguing and also a true force of his generation. He has purpose and mission in his music. I look back at music history, and I find, that is where all the great songs come from…so look out world…there are some great ones sure to come from Scottie Gage!
